Are the stars aligned for the new Michelin Dubai guide?
A special edition newsletter with my analysis and opinion. 21 new entries. 1 promotion. 3 downgrades. And feedback from a Michelin inspector.
We have a new UK prime minister, but in far more groundbreaking news, we have 21 additions to this year’s Michelin Dubai guide, one restaurant that has risen to star level, and three downgrades. I abstained from the big reveal last night at One & Only One Za’abeel, to watch online, and pen this special edition newsletter for you.
As promised, one of the perks for paid subscribers is breaking industry news, like this post dedicated to analysis, commentary and opinion on the new guide - including feedback from a Michelin inspector on how they as a team decide where to eat in Dubai.
If you’re reading this newsletter in full, thank you for supporting my research and writing. I truly appreciate you. And if you’re not, but are keen to read more, whilst also benefiting from additional perks and direct message access to moi, you may like to upgrade 🙏🏼
Before the paywall kicks in, I’d like to please take a moment to remind everyone for the gazillionth time (chefs, publicists and journalists in particular), that stars are awarded to the restaurants, NOT the chefs. So a chef can leave a restaurant, like Teible for example, and still retain the star. As Michelin itself has confirmed, the term ‘Michelin chef’ is factually incorrect. Rant over, for now.
